FUNCTIONAL ASSESSMENT SCREENING TOOL (FAST)
he FAST is a type of indirect functional assessment method. It is comprised of a self-report checklist designed to identify whether maladaptive behavior is maintained via attention and tangibles, escape, sensory stimulation, or pain attenuation.
The checklist section contains 16 items. Each question is marked as either “yes,” “no,” or “not applicable.” Items endorsed with a “yes” are then categorized into one of the four possible sources of reinforcers for problem behavior:
